Hatterene

An image of a Hatterene

My partner Pokemon. Hatterene is a Pokemon which only becomes a Psychic and Fairy-type as it evolves. It's pre-evolution forms, Hattrem and Hatenna, are mono-Psychic. For this reason, I will be focusing on Hatterene.

Behaviour.

Hatterene is a rather elusive Pokemon, preferring to live in uninhabited areas. It will emit Psychic waves to cause those around them headaches in order to try and discourage others from approaching it, although this also makes for a good method for pinpointing where one is. (Just don't forget your ibuprofen.) Once Hatterene is taken out of solitude, it will prefer quiet environments. It dislikes loud noises, and may attack those that cause them.

The Hatterene line is known for sensing, and disliking, emotions. This is generally true, as a blanket statement, but your mileage may vary. While, yes, many Hatterene refuse to be around those who feel their emotions strongly, others (especially those who have been socialized with humans from a Hattena) merely dislike strong negative emotions. Furthermore, others may have a particular negative emotion they react badly to, such as anger, sadness, or embarrassment. And not all Hatterene attack when they feel emotions they dislike, either. But, because the number of Hatterene that do is non-zero, I generally advise trying to keep your emotions under control the best you can if around a Hatterene.

Diet.

Hatterene are, technically speaking, omnivores, and meat can do the trick in a pinch, but Hatterene are generally picky eaters and prefer sweet berries, nuts and seeds. Foods which fall under one of those categories which also promote hair thickness, hydration and strength should be a staple of a Hatterene's diet, such as sunflower seeds and blackberries.

Because of Hatterene's aforementioned picky eating, if you want to give it treats regularly, I advise you give it a variety to find out which it likes best. Additionally, if your Hatterene is refusing a particular food, don't try to force it. Hatterene can sense emotional states, so it will know when it's an emergency, and/or when you don't have anything else, and (begrudgingly) eat things it dislikes in those states. However, if you have other food options and are merely trying to be stubborn to teach it a lesson: I guarantee that your Hatterene is more stubborn than you are.

Grooming

Hatterene are usually too prideful to allow owners to clean dirt and grime off of it. It tends to handle the basics by itself (with partial use of its Psychic powers to do so). That said, as a blanket statement, Hatterene loves to be pampered, and that extends to this. A great way to spend time with your Hatterene is to brush its hair with long, sweeping motions. Just try not to tug too hard, and all should be well. I have known multiple Hatterene Trainers who have informed me that, after they began doing this regularly, their Hatterene began to pat them on their head with their faux hand when it was pleased, imitating the behavior back to them.

Conclusion.

Hatterene lives up to its reputation as a somewhat prissy Pokemon, but it is able to recognize when such pretenses need to be put aside. How it reacts to strong emotions varies greatly and is largely dependent on how socialized it is. Because of its hatred for loud noises, Hatterene is a great companion for mute Trainers (helped by its ability to sense emotions without verbal cues), and Trainers with similar noise-related sensory issues. It is a difficult Pokemon, at times, but I feel as if pop culture has made it sound a lot more so than it is in reality (especially when raised from a Hatenna).
